It was dusk, Jake and his family were in their car headed to the fair. They were all excited, you could tell they were ready to run to the gates. They could see the flashing lights flash over and over again. The family had gotten out of the car, Jake, Joseph (Jake’s brother), and Kole, (Jake’s cousin), were all tempted to run off without permission, but they didn’t care if they got in trouble. When the whole family got out of the car they all started to walk to the gates. When they got through the gates, Jake and Kole started playing with a football Jake brought with. They both were having a good time. Kole wanted to try a trick with the football, so Jake agreed. Jake threw the football to Kole, but when Kole tried catching the ball he misplaced his foot and he rolled his ankle. “ Ow!” Kole siad, Jake ran over to him to ask if he was ok and he was.

Newcast Story
In Winthrop Massachusetts on Christmas Eve, children run down the stairs in their plaid pajamas to see an event that only happens once a year. Every year there's a parade on the streets. On every street everyone turns off their Christmas lights around their houses to get the whole experience of the parade. As Santa Claus comes down the streets on a firetruck the are bright white lights like stars in the distance, the sound of golden bells, squeaking of tires, clacking hooves on the icy road, and the sounds of joyful cheers of children with the smell of freshly groomed horses through the air. It’s one of their special ways of celebrating Christmas in Winthrop even in rain or deep snow. It means so much to the people of Winthrop and the person who’s pretending to be Santa Claus. It's important to understand the history and cultures of other places to understand the world around us.
Journalist at Work
Yesterday, at Calhoun Middle School eighth-grade Language and Literature class went on a hike up the hill to the Mc Alister gym. In Ms. Simmons’ class, the students were learning how to be journalists by practicing taking good observation notes to later turn into a story. Witnesses noticed that some kids thought it was stupid. One kid named Jake expressed, “I don’t see any action in this gym, and we can’t make up stories about nothing”. There were voices of students talking with their friends, some were kicking an orange cone around as if it were a soccer ball, and some were climbing on bleachers.
Out of nowhere, one of the teachers, Ms.Petit, scolded the kids for sitting on the bleachers,” Get off the bleachers, you’re not supposed to sit up there”. She demanded that they go off to do work as a journalist. One kid lost his journal in the bleachers while pulling up his pants. Coach Ordaz came to save the day by letting out the bleachers just enough for the journal to fall out. Who never imagined so much could take place in a room full of eighth-graders on a journalist assignment. When the class ended, the students left the Mac gym with a notebook full of drama.
Break
On the campus of Calhoun Middle School, In the Language and Literature class of Mr. Moore,
the students were working hard revising and editing their position papers. It was so quiet in the
class that you could hear the clock tick “tick-tock-tick-tock”, the students waited and waited for the clock to turn on 1:05 pm. They were anxiously waiting to go on a break from doing the work.
Mr.Moore stopped them in the middle of their work time to teach a quick lesson on revise and edit, but students were disengaged and ready to leave. Witnesses could tell in the student's faces that they were so done with the lecture you could stick a fork in them. Jason raised his hand nervously and asked, “When will it be time for our break?”Moore shockingly responded, “You have like 10 minutes left”.
Finally, the bell rang and the students got very happy but still had to wait. All you could hear in the hallway was footsteps, other students talking and laughing. Eventually, the students were out in the hallway playing and having fun.
However, the kids all started to make their way back in the classroom. One girl was on the stairs and jumped off the stairs and fell, on the last step and hit her head. The students gasp! And looked at her and asked “Are you ok” as she laid there. Although, she jumped up as nothing had just happened and said: “Yes I'm ok”.The students told the teacher and the teacher sent her to the nurse to get ice for her head. She was ok but for the rest of the day, the students were worried if she had damaged herself.
Cutz
In the U.S. it is estimated that one in every 200 girls between 13 to 19 yrs old,cut themselves regularly. As students walk the halls of Calhoun middle school. You never know what struggles students are faced with. They hide behind smiles, conversations with friends and hide behind lowered heads. Their struggles aren't easy to talk about with people. Even if they don't trust people.
Eli was a sixth-grader at this middle school who linked up with bad influences in her circle of friends, acquaintances, and strangers. She was convinced that cutting herself was the only thing that made her feel better and make her forget her problems for a while based on what people had said. A teacher found her cutting her wrists with a sharp object in the cafeteria. The cuts were ocean deep. Who would have thought somebody that always acted so cheerful would be hurting herself to hide away her problems. She was admitted to a mental hospital. She was there for a few months and is now better.
The Perfect Storm
It was a cold rainy day as Anna walked to the school bus stop. She saw her friends Alexis and Elliot standing there waiting under a tree so they wouldn't get wet. A few other people were waiting for the bus, too. We stood there getting soaked as we watched the elementary kids walk to school. Twenty minutes later the bus was still late. One of the kids called their mom to pick them up. The mom packed most of the people waiting at the bus stop in the car but there was no more room for us, so the three friends had to stay and wait for the bus. They started getting bored. Anna started jumping around but slipped and fell and started bleeding, which was funny. She was fine. Finally after fifty minutes the bus came. Barely anyone was on the bus. The person driving was an old man and there was an old lady directing him where to go, so I couldn't blame them for being late. When we finally got to school we had to go to the front office and get a late pass. By this time most of us were soaking wet. I was really hungry because usually I have breakfast at school but since we were so late we couldn't.
Trouble in Paradise
Have you ever heard the saying the mice will play while the cats are away. On the campus of Pedro Albizu Campos, The health teacher, Mr. Roberson decided to take a day off. As a result of him missing school, this particular class did not take a liking of the sub chosen for the class. Her name was Ms. Jackson. Ms. Jackson was a mean lady every time class 701 needed a sub it would always be Ms. Jackson, which everyone of course was mad about every time. Ms. Jackson was an actual teacher but she taught the 4th grade.
Ms. Jackson always was arguing with a student but this time it was Shalawn, Ms. Jackson was yelling at the table where most of the girls were at, and Shalawn started getting mad. So she started yelling back and talking back to Ms. Jackson saying, “Shut up, no one is talking to you!’ Everyone started laughing because it was funny but Ms. Jackson always does have a problem with 701. Then Mr. Fleacher the dean came to get Shalawn for how she was acting.
So then like 20 minutes later when it was 11:10, 701 and 7th grade headed to lunch. After everyone came to the lunchroom, Shalawn came and she told everyone that Mr. Fleacher made her say sorry to Ms. Jackson and she was mad because she didn’t want to. She also said Mr. Fleacher called her mother and Shalawn’s mom does not play. But no one was surprised because Shalawn gets in trouble usually every day.

Car Crash
It was a cold Sunday afternoon in Denton Texas as Fatima was getting ready to go to a get together with her mom Nicole, her aunt Alma, and her cousin Nadia. On their way they stopped at an apartment complex because they noticed that the road was closed; “Did you guys see what happened?!” exclaimed a bystander “No I don’t know what did happen?” asked Fatima’s aunt, “T-t-turn a-around…” stuttered another bystander nervously. Once Fatima, Nicole, Alma, and Nadia turned around they saw a car half way wrapped around an electrical pole.”Fatima and I saw a car like that one speeding by but we never thought that this would have happened.” said Nadia. As Fatima, Nicole, Alma, and Nadia along with the two bystanders got as close as they could to the crash Fatima exclaimed “People are still getting pulled out of the car!!” everyone looked closely and in horror one of the bystanders said “If a baby gets pulled out I’m going to cry” and to everyone's relief no baby was pulled out of the car and the people that did get pulled out only had minor injuries; we all took a big sigh of relief as we parted ways, the bystanders when back to the apartment complex and Fatima, Nicole, Alma, and Nadia went to the get together with a story to tell.
Trip to Dallas
It was a very interesting ride to Dallas. There were on the way to their destination when they come across a huge traffic. They waited for a while and there was no sight of movement. They waited and waited, till they saw people turn off their car. Moments pass but still no movement and the kids were getting very desperate and want to go eat and go to the bathroom. Then people got off their car to see why there was so much traffic. They finally found out what had happened and told everyone just to make sure they would not worry about why there was so much traffic. There was so much traffic because there was a car crash there was a truck filled with gas. They took a long time because they had to clean the gas up so no one would get hurt. They clean the gas up and they went off with their day.
Embarrassing Moment in My Life
Everybody was rushing through the breezeway of Calhoun Middle School to get to their classes. Two girls were running at full speed up the breezeway to get to Mrs.Sanders Reading class. One named Laura and the other one was named Marly. They were hustling trying to avoid being tardy after being released from Mr. Morrison’s Math class. The girls knew that it was imperative for them to make it on time to the class because their reading teacher was very strict and she didn't like when her students were late. As they were heading up the breezeway, Laura wasn't looking where she was stepping and she tumbled over a rock and fell. She was laid out on the concrete trying to replay what she had just experienced and why her knee was bleeding. After a while, She was back on her feet limping to class. She refused to check her knee because they knew if they stop they would have been late. When they got to class Laura's knee was bruised and she notice that on one side of her pants it was ripped from the fall. After 6th period, She limped to the nurse for aid.
School's Out
The last day of school is the day that all students look forward to at Calhoun middle school. It was a humid Thursday in May when the kids at Calhoun were preparing for their beginning of summer. The day they went to school it was a breezy emotional day because they wouldn't see their friends in 3 months. The excited 7th graders were chatting in the hall about what 2 classes they had picked. The classes they picked depended on what activity they got to do until it was time to go to lunch then after they eat the 7th grade gets to go outside or out to the gym. In the gym, the class gets to have social time and do activities that the teachers picked. When the other half was in the football field you could play soccer football. When the kids were playing football there was an altercation to were two of the kids were in each other face screaming and cursing. Towards the end of the day, the teachers called all students to tell them that a snow cone truck was coming and that everybody gets a free snow cone. Their were for choice flavors to pick from pina colada, watermelon, blue raspberry, tigers blood once everybody got their snowcones the teachers gave us time to eat them on the field then after we ate them 7th, 6th grade lined up on the breezeway and congratulated the 8th graders going to highschool once they did that it was time to say goodbye to your friends and go home .

The Great Fall
As all the students climbed the steep stairs to Ms. Simmons’ Language and Literature class. They waited for her to greet them at the door. As the door flew open she was greeting them, then they grabbed their journals and books. As students settled in their seats, and sat on the red couch with flowers ,Ms. Simmons exclaims ,“WE'RE GOING TO THE GYM.” As all the students raced to the door they went down the stairs and headed to the door leading outside. The cold breeze and rain hit their faces while they treaded up the hill and to the MC Alister’s gym. When they arrived to the Mc Alister gym, you could hear the squeaking shoes of wet feet eight-graders. Coach MacDougall was in the gym with a sixth grade gym class. He immediately stormed out when the eighth-graders arrived. Then the big kids went inside the gym. As all of them scattered to their friends chaos broke out, someone lost their journal in the bleachers and then some kids climbed the bleachers then the teachers demanded all the students to get off the bleachers. As everyone got off fatima fell off as she reached for help and then boom she fell on the floor! she felt so embarrassed everyone started to laugh!!!!!!

As kids were waiting, there was a problem in the gym. One of the staff members had to break the bad news to all of the students. A voice came over the intercom “the pep rally has been cancelled due to problems in the gym.
Students stayed in silence, then filled the classroom filled with disappointment. Students were supposed to be in the pep rally but were relieved to not have to perform.
Others really didn't care because they didn't want to be in a hot gym with hundreds of kids. After a while, rumors started spreading some teachers had finally told the students that the pep rally was cancelled due to an ac problem. After that people went on with their day as if nothing ever happened and eventually the pep rally was rescheduled
